Hey there, my name is Dave, and what I want to say first and foremost is that I 've always had a passion for teaching. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing a student's eyes light up when they finally understand a new concept. "AH-HA" moments are what I live for! Several years ago, I began tutoring as a college student at the University of California Santa Barbara. It was there that I started helping my friends and classmates with their studies. In the process, I discovered that I had a gift for explaining abstract concepts in chemistry, physics, and biology. If only I had a nickel for every time a friend or family member has said, 'You're so smart, why don't you become a doctor?' The truth is I have thought about medical school, but teaching is my first love. Since coming home from college, I've mainly focused on helping students with mathematics and science. I'm especially strong in the areas of Prealgebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus, Trigonometry, and Calculus. I'm also a very adept teacher when it comes to high school and college level Chemistry… (Please Note: East or North San Jose or Palo Alto are too far for me to drive.) So you might ask how I gained my academic foundation. Well, I was extremely fortunate to be blessed with two wonderful, loving parents. My mother is a retired English and French teacher, while my father is an electrical engineer. Both of them attended Stanford University and graduated with Master's degrees. With amazing parents like this I was fortunate enough to have two outstanding and inspirational resources to draw upon as a child. Growing up I accepted nothing but the best. As a student at Leigh High School I received a 4.3 GPA. In college I strived even harder as a biology major at UCSB. After several intense years, I graduated with a 3.67 GPA, making honors, and finishing near the very top of my class. So what makes a great tutor? 1. Experience, Experience, Experience (You don't know it until you've taught it 10-20 times!) 2. Energy and Enthusiasm (Keeping kids engaged is something I specialize in!) 3. The Ability to Use Metaphors and Tailor Your Explanations to the Student at Hand 4. A Great Outlook on Life and the Use of Humor 5. Being Fascinated with the World and Wanting to Know How Everything Works If you've read this far, congratulations! So what are you waiting for? Send me a message and I'll get back to you within a few short hours...Can't wait to hear from you!
